Phil Daisy – Take A Picture
International superstar Phil Daisy drops electrifying new EP ‘Rise Above Circumstances’
CAMEROON – A new EP from international star Phil Daisy is set to launch this Cameroon-born multitalented artist onto the global stage in major ways.
The dance hall reggae artist who has become known throughout South Africa for his charismatic and versatile Hip Hop inspired music is fusing in more sounds on his latest project, “Rise Above Circumstances.” The six-song EP features tracks that are dance songs with a Jamaican kind of swing, Hip Hop songs that will have listeners bouncing, and even tracks that fuse genres like Rock and Pop. And throughout it all, Phil Daisy uses his platform to inspire the next generation to live better.
“I want my music to help make the world a better place,” he said. “I write about love and morality and politics and social affairs and the digital age and so many other things, and I don’t have negativity in anything that I’m doing. I like to educate people with my music. The context that I’m bringing is new and unique from any other person. And when you add my very unique vocals – which I believe can appeal to any genre of music – then there’s nothing else out there like what I’m trying to do.”
Phil Daisy’s music illustrates both a youthful drive and an esoteric wisdom, which is a testament to the time and effort he’s put into cultivating his craft. And that work has paid off as he is largely considered at the forefront of Cameroon’s urban dancehall music scene. His new EP is set to take him to new heights globally, especially with standout singles such as “Take a Picture.”
“It’s a fusion of dance hall, reggaetón and trance with an attractive melody and a catchy hook that will be reverberating in your head long after you hear it,” he said. “If your pictures aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough. Taking pictures is savoring life intensely every hundredth of a second. Your first photographs could be your best memories. The best thing about a picture is that it never changes, even when the people in it do. I wanted to write something that would make me talk about what really inspires me – a kind of reflection of myself and society and how I want to be guided in my society. And I wanted to do that in a way that would inspire others. This song and the whole EP, really does that.”
Describing himself as sitting somewhere in the lane between rapper, singer and fiddler (someone who whistles a melody), Phil Daisy’s current output has tended toward a strong mixture of genres and rhythms. While dance hall rap is on the agenda, his larger goal is to create a broader spectrum of sounds and styles that will appeal to audiences all over the world.
“I learn a lot from flows,” he said. “When I listen to music, that’s what I’m tuned into and that’s what I want to continue to experiment with. I can see myself doing Basement, Dancehall, Rock … everything. The possibilities are endless. I’m not going to limit myself. I see myself doing many things in the future. I’m not going to narrow myself to one thing. I want to try it all. But more than anything, I want to bring positive change to the world because I think the world needs that more than just individual success. My personal success could be 10 cars and a big house, but that doesn’t influence many people other than me and the people around me who benefit from that. I want to be a positive movement and make a positive movement at the same time. I want to bring vibes and positive change. I want to impact the world.”
